How to play 500
- Play in two teams (partners sit across). Each hand you bid for the right to name the contract — a number of tricks (6–10) in a trump suit or no-trump, or a misère (called a nullo in the American variant) to take none.
- The deck adds the Joker (always the top trump) and the bowers: the Jack of trump (right bower) and the same-colour Jack (left bower, which counts as trump). Choose the Australian (43-card) or American (45-card) variant when you create the game.
- The highest bidder takes the kitty, buries the same number of cards, and leads. Follow the led suit when you can.
- Make your bid to score its value (lose it if set); opponents score 10 per trick. First team to bid its way to 500 wins — fall to −500 and you lose.
